The world's largest passenger ship sailing around the globe for peace and sustainability visited New York City on October 15-16, 2017 as part of Peace Boat's 95th Global Voyage for Peace. Over the two day visit, many activities were held including an onboard Floating Festival for Sustainability, including an Eco-Fashion show with original music by Justin Marchacos and visuals by VJ Genki Nishida, a Peace Symphony by Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky, and inspiring poetry by the Peace Boat Ocean and Climate Youth Ambassadors. The Floating Festival for Sustainability included dynamic presentations, music, exhibitions and more focused on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as keynote speeches by the Director of UNESCO Liaison Office New York, Ms Marie Paule Roudil, testimony of Nagasaki atomic bomb survivor Kimura Tokuko, a special presentation by Peace Boat founder Yoshioka Tatsuya about the Ecoship project and a celebration with key representatives of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), 2017 Nobel Peace Laureate. Peace Boat is also a committed campaigner for the UN SDGs, and travels around the world with the Global Goals logo on the hull of its ship. Showcasing looks from some of the most prominent conscious fashion designers in New York City, the Eco-Fashion show demonstrated how fashion – far from frivolous – can help move the world toward many of the Sustainable Development Goals through innovation, responsible sourcing, and fair production. For this year's Eco-Fashion show, Peace Boat invited fifteen of the most talented and innovative sustainable fashion designers from New York City. The following distinguished designers contribute to sustainable fashion in a niche way and Peace Boat is honoured to showcase their work: A.Bernadette, Arkins, Bioglitz, Caboclo, EMI Beachwear, Fauna, Keeper, Malaika, Martini and Milk, Movin, Ornate Reverie, SHWE, Susana Colina, harMonica, The African Shirt Company, Wildlife Works, Yugala + Priti and more. Each designer has chosen a Sustainable Development Goal that most speaks to them such as the abolishment of poverty or the building of sustainable cities and communities. We hope that their collections inspire you to take part in the sustainable fashion movement. The evening reception party included live music by Mikuak followed by DJs Carlos Chiesa and Pabels in the Starlight lounge.
