The year 2021 and what's to remember? I started the year out with the triangle collection literally made from mostly triangles in Tencel and organic fabrications. The collection included for the very first time a bag. The bag was made from a zero-waste pattern consisting only of bike tubes or truck tubes.
I did my very first art collaboration with the local artist Tato from Long Island. She finger-painted the linen vest with the expressive art of the Statue of Liberty. The collection included both the vests and some triangle bags.
We also had our very first partnered giveaway was a huge success and Barbara from Michigan won merchandise for over $1200 a big congratulations to her!
2021 was also the year that I launched our very first evening wear collection inspired by my birthplace Jutland, Denmark. The collection was shot in Utah by the talented Lindsay Francis. The collection was made entirely from deadstock fabric which meant some of it sold out almost imminently.
My brand was nominated by W&B to win the Carbon Reduction initiative. The voting was done via. social media and some brands took the advance and had their bots comment and vote for them 🙈 W&B decided that they weren't going to go through with it after all, so it ended there but I wanted to thank each and every one of you that voted for my brand!❤️
In November I was invited to hold a speech in Copenhagen about sustainability at Malaika New York and how we approach it. The conference included other speakers such as the VP from Novo Nordic, Philip Moris, Schneider Electric, and many others, so when I was asked I couldn't believe it! I finally got a copy of my speech and you can listen to it/see it here.
In December I launched a line of Zero-waste personal care products including a few products from our very own skincare/bath collection.
Lastly, I want to address the elephant in the room.. Mr. Covid! In the past 2 years, I have had to close down our storefronts and invest in our online presence instead. It has been an extremely hard and almost impossible thing to do but I am finally at a place where I can start to see a glimpse of the future thanks to all of you!
Thank you for reading and for following my zero waste journey. I promise you that there will be more sustainable tips and tricks in the new year so that we together can fight to make a change for a better and brighter future for ourselves and generations to come.
Stay safe out there! See you next year.
X, M
