IMPLICATION OF FAST FASHION

Did you know that the fashion industry is the 2nd most polluting industry in the world? It’s second only to oil! 25% of chemicals produced worldwide are used for textiles and the industry is often noted as the number two polluter of clean water – after agriculture. 

While it’s great to find a bargain in your local clothing store of choice, very few of us understand the implications of this. Cheap clothes are often produced under horrendous conditions in ‘sweatshops’ in developing countries because costs have to be kept low. This means that the workers are often exploited, underpaid and overworked. Toxic dyes and textile productions pollute water and transportation causes massive amounts of carbon dioxide emission.  

For this reason we are interested in the concept of sustainable fashion. Sustainable fashion, that unlike fast fashion, wouldn’t be detrimental to our environment is now our main concern in our designs.
